The color, the contrast, the movement; it all points to an existence marked by extremes. There is no mediocrity here.
Rubens is probably the best exemplar of the Baroque movement, and though I like all his paintings with almost equal appreciation, this one stands out as a particularly beautiful piece.
I don't want to say anything more about this work, just look at it and into it. Allow it to pull you into the composition, meet the persons represented, and walk amongst them in the landscape. Baroque art isn't something one looks at disinterestedly, you must experience it deeply and fully.
